Its ideal location between China, Europe, and the Mediterranean made it a dynamic trading centre, with significant textile production, particularly of silk and carpets. These carpets have thus been heavily influenced by Asian and Persian cultures, blending Chinese motifs with a rich palette of earthy colours, reds, golds, browns, and greens, typical of classic Persian carpets.
