Fernand herbo (1905-1995) Watercolor signed lower left "boats in honfleur" 23 x31 cm without frame. 36 X 44 cm with frame. Fernand herbo is a french painter, watercolorist born march 18, 1905 in orchies and died in 1995 in honfleur. Herbo was appointed official painter of the navy in 1944. In 1950, he exhibited at the salon des indépendants, to which he has always remained faithful. Painter of montmartre, he settled in honfleur where his wife ran a bar-tabac, fishing tackle: the bar des artistes, now the bistrot des artistes. The ceiling was decorated by fernand herbo. He is a painter of the twentieth century and he is inspired by the daily life of his time. Industrial activities are present in his paintings: factories, locomotives. He also painted trailers and circuses. But its main subject remains water. The banks of the river, the ports, the marines allow him to deploy a harmonious and well-balanced colorist palette. Twenty-three of his works are kept by the musée eugène boudin. Source: anne-marie bergeret-gourbin curator of the eugène boudin museum - catalogue of the eugène boudin museum.
