Large solid brass Mek-Elek articulated map reading lamp from the 1930s-40s. A little history: Mek Elek Engineering was founded in 1931 in Douglas Street, London by HC Cooper. They produced exceptional industrial lighting for use in factories, workshops, and for the aerospace industry. These brass models were mainly used on submarines and ships for machinists' work or as table lamps for map reading. Being brass, they will not rust in contact with salty sea water. The lamp rotates in all directions using a tooth mechanism in the joints. The 3 double-elbow joints are not simply friction-fit...they have 4 gears on each one. The base has a heavy-duty mounting bracket and can be fixed to a table or wall. This is a substantial lamp, it extends over 119 cm - bulb included - the wire measures 2 meters - Sold in its patina, it can be polished by you, if you prefer a shiny gold appearance for your decoration. A very rare piece with a unique design.
