Stylish Alvar Aalto bowl, Finland, estimated to date from the 1980s–90s. It forms part of Alvar Aalto’s collection for Iittala, which is an iconic piece of Finnish design. Aalto drew inspiration from the thousands of lakes in his native Finland and their undulating shape (‘aalto’ in Finnish). He received an award in 1937 at the World’s Fair in Paris. The manufacturing method follows the original technique; The vase is cast in a wooden mould together with the opening. This gives the vase a softer shape due to its characteristic design. The iconic design is inspired by the Finnish landscape of his youth and is both functional and sculptural. Alvar Aalto’s name is embossed on the base of the bowl. It is 4.5 cm high, 18 X 16 cm long/wide and weighs 470 grams. No chips, cracks or other flaws. Only natural signs of wear. Securely packed and dispatched with insurance.
