Large mirror with an open pediment in carved wood – Late 19th century. An elegant and spectacular fireplace or overmantel mirror in finely carved and openwork wood, dating from the late 19th century. The frame features a rich decoration of scrolls, foliage, and flowers carved in high relief. The pediment is adorned with two facing fantastic animals, reminiscent of griffins or heraldic lions, surrounding a central motif of a stylised shell. The whole piece showcases remarkable craftsmanship in cabinetmaking and decorative sculpture. The dark brown hue highlights the relief of the ornaments and gives this piece a particularly refined decorative presence. Its generous dimensions allow it to fit above a fireplace as well as in an entrance, a living room, or a characterful bedroom. Antique mercury glass, showing slight alterations and nuances that contribute to its charm. Condition: Good overall condition. Some wear, minor restorations from use, and slight signs of age.
