This emboli mask is an authentic piece of gabonese tribal art, probably created by the bakota in the 1950s-1960s. With an imposing size of 49 cm in height, 20 cm in width, and 27 cm in depth, it embodies the spirituality of the healing rituals and satsi initiation ceremonies of young bakota men. The mask is inspired by the spirit of the ngoy panther, an emblematic figure of strength, as well as by the fearsome vitality of the forest. Carved in wood and displaying stylized lines, this mask has marked brow ridges and a sagittal crest reminiscent of the power of a male gorilla, symbol of the spirit of the forest. Despite its age (mid-20th century), it is in good condition with some light signs of wear that confirm its historical and artisanal character. Perfect for a tribal art collection or as an ethnic decorative element, this work recalls the spiritual and artistic richness of the bakota.
