Originating from Bobo-Dioulasso, in northwest Burkina Faso, this sun mask comes from the Bobo ethnic group, traditionally divided between Burkina Faso and Mali (West Africa). The Bobo sun mask is used in protection or purification rites, or at funerals. According to the Bobo, it protects the family and the village against evil spirits and promotes marriage and fertility. Fact: Although called a "sun, " this mask actually represents a nocturnal animal, an owl. This would explain the bulging eyes and beak-like "nose." Hang on the wall or place on a table. Add an ethnic touch to your home with this beautiful work of art. Diameter: 50 cm.
