This antique Dan passport mask, carved from dense, patinated wood, is distinguished by its beautiful expressiveness and traditional details. Typical of the Dan culture (Ivory Coast / Liberia), this small ritual mask has stylized features: half-closed eyelids, thin nose, half-open mouth. Tribal cross scarifications are finely engraved on the cheeks, marking its identity use. The patina is remarkable, deep and heterogeneous, testifying to prolonged use. The mask alone measures approximately 15 cm; it reaches 25 cm on its turned wooden base, fixed by a brass rod. The hollowed-out back has the original perforations. Very good overall condition, with authentic wear, marks of time and small cracks of use. It was probably a personal votive mask, used as a talisman or in a limited ceremonial setting.
