Pair of antique Art Deco bookends

Magnificent pair of vintage bookends representing seals (or sea lions) standing upright. Glazed ceramic / Earthenware. A gradient of shiny brown/black with a superb ochre/orange colour work on the chest. Clean lines typical of the Art Deco / Modernist period. Although they do not bear any apparent signature underneath the base, the work of the glaze and the shape are reminiscent of the French productions from Saint-Clément. Very good overall condition. Note some signs of age that attest to their authenticity: a chip on one corner of the base and at the tip of a fin. These small defects are hardly visible once the objects are in place.
