Antique Japanese display cabinet – Taishō / Shōwa period (c. 1912-1970) Dimensions: Length: 78 cm Depth: 32 cm Height: 109 cm. Style: Taishō Materials and techniques: Japanese birch (Betula grossa), Shorea (Shorea spp.), plywood. Place of origin: Japan. Period: Late Taishō period, early Shōwa period. Date of manufacture: Circa 1912-1970. Condition: Good. Wear is consistent with age and use. Japanese storage furniture made during the Taishō period, in the early 20th century. Designed for domestic use, it combines a compact vertical format with a clear and functional interior organisation. The cabinet features glazed double doors with ribbed glass, allowing light to pass through while protecting the contents. The interior includes well-proportioned shelves suitable for dishes, books, or everyday items. The lower part incorporates two drawers providing additional storage space. Made from Japanese birch and Shorea, with the use of plywood, it offers good stability and great durability. The surface has a warm and even patina, marked by time in a way consistent with its age. A simple and versatile piece, ideal as a light display cabinet, accent furniture, or small sideboard in a contemporary, Japanese, or wabi-sabi interior. It is in excellent condition, except for the typical imperfections of any antique, due to the passage of time.
