Scandinavian ceiling light by Carl Fagerlund for Orrefors, 1950s

Brass and crystal glass pendant lamp created by swedish designer carl fagerlund for orrefors in the 1950s. The thick crystal glass globe is made by orrefors, one of sweden's largest glassworks, renowned for the high quality of its productions. The structure is made of gilded brass. It has a socket for an e27 bulb and a white cord. Excellent vintage condition. Dimensions: height 33 cm, globe diameter 14 cm, globe height 16.5 cm a little history: carl fagerlund, lighting and glass designer, was born in 1915 in sweden. He studied at stockholm acs, and became a design professor in the 1940s. From 1946 to 1980, he worked as a designer at the glassmaker orrefors, famous for its high-quality crystal and glass objects. This modernist scandinavian lighting designer's artistic eye has made him a leading authority on lighting design. Today, his table lamps, chandeliers, sconces, and other lighting fixtures enrich homes and continue to captivate collectors worldwide. His designs can be found in museums, churches, and corporate headquarters. He designs provocative sconces, pendants, and other wall-mounted fixtures in brass and textured glass for a stockholm manufacturing company called asea (allmänna svenska elektriska aktiebolaget, or swedish general electric company). Carl fagerlund is known for his work with orrefors glassworks, a renowned glassworks in småland that owes its world-renowned art products to having participated in the 1925 international exhibition of modern decorative and industrial arts. Fagerlund joined orrefors in 1946 and for over thirty years designed pendant lamps, wall lamps, recessed lighting, a range of murano glass works and other richly complex modern lighting fixtures.
