Coffee table made of solid elm burl wood, in patchwork, Belgium, 1990s. A piece made to private order, designed for a specific interior. The top, as well as the straight legs, is entirely covered with small pieces of solid elm burl, 7 mm thick, made from real wood and not veneer, assembled edge to edge, with no break between the top and the base. The original lacquer had aged poorly; it has been removed and replaced with a clear oil, which gives a slight satin finish and better reveals the wood grain. The elm burl has an irregular, almost lively grain. No piece truly resembles its neighbour, some tightly clustered around small knots, others crossed by long flame-like veins, giving the top a dense texture that changes with the light. It is an imposing coffee table, 120.5 X 100 cm, designed for a large living room rather than a corner sofa. In good used condition, with some fine joint lines visible between the pieces, consistent with the age of the item. Please feel free to contact us for detailed photos and a video. Dimensions. Height: 42 cm / 16.5 in. Length: 120.5 cm / 47.4 in. Width: 100 cm / 39.4 in.
