Popular Art cabinet sideboard, 1900

Piece of early 20th-century furniture, a completely unique piece of folk art. It showcases the influence of Art Nouveau in its fluid lines and organic cutouts, combined with traditional woodwork featuring twisted legs. Its architecture has a very theatrical aspect: a canopy with a bevelled mirror at the top, topped with a stylised eye motif, and a central body framed by curved shelves on the sides. A centrepiece with a proto-Dadaist look: It is much more than just storage; it is a true sculpture. This blend of styles and unusual shapes gives it a raw, almost Dadaist or surrealist quality ahead of its time. The natural patina of the solid wood is superb and highlights the craftsmanship of the era.
