Folding dessert table TOBIA signed CIATTI, Italy

A wonderful folding serving trolley published in the 1960s by the Italian publishing house CIATTI, it is commonly referred to as the Tobia trolley as it is believed to have been created by the Italian designer Tobia Scarpa. It is made of solid wood with a white lacquer finish. The chrome metal hinges bear the inscription "Ciatti Mod. Tobia Brevettato." It is very elegant and also very clever: when both sides are unfolded, it transforms into a very practical serving trolley with large wheels. If only one side is unfolded, it becomes a lovely little shelf. And when you decide to store it, the legs with the wheels are held in place, close to the "body," by magnets, making it very easy to roll into a corner. It is in generally good condition for a mobile piece of furniture that is over 50 years old, solid, functional, but it does show signs of use that also testify to its age. Indeed, I spent several hours carefully cleaning it and removing superficial corrosion from the chrome parts, but there are still marks and various stains on the lacquered wood, a bit of pitting from corrosion (it could still be improved with some elbow grease), and a few small chips in the white lacquer. One wheel has an area where the chrome has worn off. I also carefully cleaned the wheels; one wheel now turns perfectly, while the others turn but with less freedom. In summary, it has many small signs of use and age, but which, in my opinion, are largely offset by the design of this beautiful piece of furniture. It is an iconic designer piece from the 1960s that should be embraced with the patina of many years of service. When folded, it measures 76 cm in height, 67 cm in width, and 10 cm in thickness. When fully unfolded, it measures 47 cm in width.
