Blue emperor butterflies under large glass dome

The ulysses butterfly, also known as the blue emperor, is a large machaon-tailed butterfly native to australia, indonesia, papua new guinea and the solomon islands. The remarkable feature of the butterfly's wing is that it contains rows of very small concave surfaces that reflect light in many ways. For example, the center of the concave surface reflects a blue light and the edges also reflect a blue light. Butterflies are not captured in the wild, but bred to create this piece.
