Large 1950s modernist coffee table – sculptural black base

Elegant French coffee table from the 1950s, notable for its simple and particularly graphic design. Its long rectangular top, veneered in light wood with beautiful grain, rests on an original structure composed of a crossbar and four tapered legs in black lacquered wood. Discreetly placed black lacquered metal brackets under the top ensure the connection and rigidity of the whole. The contrast between the warmth of the natural wood and the black base, along with the slender slightly angled legs, gives this table a light silhouette that is very characteristic of post-war French modernist furniture. A rare piece, with particularly interesting construction, retaining a beautiful presence and its patina of use. France, circa 1955-1960. Designer and publisher not identified to date.
