Traditional Thai mask representing a female deity (late 20th century). Polychrome wood: gold, red, black, and green, carved and hand-painted. Highlights with pieces of mirror and multicoloured stained glass on the forehead and headdress. The gentle and soothing expression of this representation, along with its slight joy, evokes the inner peace and great satisfaction of the gods and goddesses of Theravada and Mahayana Buddhism prevalent in Thailand. It may possibly represent the goddesses: Prajnaparamita, Tara the Benevolent, or Cunda. Beautiful patina, a very fine example of this type of mask due to its harmony, symmetry, and overall appearance. Particularly prominent and realistic profile. Handcrafted, unique piece. Very good condition. Height: 25.5 cm. (/10 in.) Width: 19.5 cm. (/7.7 in.) Depth: 4.5 cm. (/1.8 in.) Weight: 526 g. (/1.16 lb.) A souvenir from another era, this object may show some signs of age.
