Lacquered Chinese side table with drawer and magazine holder.

Chinese-style side table, probably dating from the mid-20th century, featuring a drawer with a brass handle and an integrated magazine rack at the bottom. Made of black lacquered wood, it is distinguished by its sumptuous hand-painted decoration of peonies and birds in shimmering hues, enhanced by a gold calligraphic inscription on the top. Its curved legs and clever format make it an ideal character piece for use as an end table, bedside table, or in an entrance hall. Condition: The furniture is perfectly sound, stable, and functional, with the interior drawer lined in burgundy velvet sliding easily. The lacquered top shows an authentic patina of use, marked by a few fine superficial scratches, a small loss of gold lacquer, and slight localized wear at the bottom of the legs. These discreet signs of time testify to its history and in no way detract from the unique charm of this decorative piece.
