Antique Grocer's Grain Cabinet – Drawers, Display Cases & Enamel Plates
A wonderful old grain merchant's cabinet that seems to have come straight from a bygone grocery store... Made of wood, this piece of furniture has particularly interesting proportions: relatively compact, it still offers a multitude of storage options and, above all, an absolutely irresistible façade. The upper part consists of three large drawers, each still adorned with its original small enamelled plaque indicating its former contents: "Cinnamon wood", "Juniper seed" and "Gelatine". Just below are three magnificent drawers with glass fronts, an aesthetic as well as functional feature that once allowed for easy identification of their contents at a glance. Each retains its small enamelled grocery plaque — "Pearled barley", "Bitter almonds" and "Hazelnuts" — as well as its delicate white porcelain knobs. The small white porcelain knobs that adorn the entire façade are a charming detail in themselves and provide a lovely contrast to the warm, patinated tones of the wood. Finally, the lower part consists of large open compartments once intended for bulk storage.
