Knitted Diamond Throw Blanket Vintage 1970s

This colourful hand-knitted throw, originating from greece in the 1970s, features a geometric diamond pattern in all manner of bright hues referencing to expressionism. This blanket has a certain weight to it, and it would be perfect for use as a throw over a sofa; on top of a double bed; or even as a wall decoration. This piece is in good condition considering its age – there are two small tears on one of the green panels, as can be seen in the images. But overall, considering its vintage, a great piece. This throw is not just a fantastic piece of folk art. The tradition in this part of greece is that young girls, in preparation for their marriage dowry, must produce a huge amount of textile products with the help of their mothers and grandmothers. When the time comes to get married they display their wares to their village, taking them on a parade to their groom's house whilst accompanied by music and dance.
