A superb pair of patinated reconstituted marble sculptures representing antonio canova's iconic lions, created in the late 18th century for the tomb of clement XIII in st. Peter's basilica in rome. One of the lions rests peacefully with its eyes closed, embodying moderation, while the other, alert and watchful, evokes vigilance—a symbolic composition that has become a major reference in the neoclassical style. These faithful replicas are cast in reconstituted marble (agglomerated marble powder), giving them a mineral feel and authentic weight. The manually applied brown-beige patina accentuates the aging effect and highlights the expressive details of the manes, muscles, and paw pads. Each lion measures approximately 30 cm long, 10 cm wide, and 20 cm high. Very good overall condition, with light, even wear intentionally incorporated into the finish. Ideal for adorning a bookcase, console table, or entryway, these sculptures bring a touch of classical elegance.
