Old French industrial workshop furniture in pine / storage bench, circa 1880–1900

An antique French workshop cabinet dating from the late 19th century, around 1880–1900. Made of solid pine, the cabinet features three large hinged doors equipped with old hinges and metal handles. Behind the doors is a series of narrow individual compartments, originally designed to organise tools, materials, or other workshop supplies. The cabinet was originally used in a vertical position, with the compartments arranged one above the other. However, its construction allows it to be used in three different ways. It can be placed vertically, as originally intended, to serve as a tall storage unit. It can also be positioned horizontally in two different orientations, with the doors opening either upwards or downwards. When used horizontally, its length of 255 cm and shallow depth allow it to function as a low TV unit, shoe cabinet, storage unit for an entrance, or a bench with storage. The pine has a natural patina as well as marks, scratches, variations in colour, and other signs of age and use.
