Set of 4 matching vintage cups and sub-cups in white earthenware adorned with berries and wheatgrass, with a blue-gray rim. Each saucer is stamped hedgegrow – alfred meakin – england underneath. In the eighteenth century, the best pottery in the world was made in stoke-on-trent, staffordshire. Having all the resources to maintain the factories, north staffordshire became a centre of ceramic production in the early seventeenth century. The area was full of clay, coal to run the ovens and machines. Alfred meakin ltd was established in 1875 by alfred meakin. The pottery is affiliated with a large british pottery company j. & g. Meakin in hanley, run by his brothers james and george meakin, known for its large amount of porcelain, cheap ironstone produced for the british market. A beautiful set for lovers of english tea time! Good general condition, a handle was glued back to one of the cups. 4 X saucers d 14, 2 cm. 2 X cups h 8 X d 9.2 cm (one with glued handle) 2 X cups h 7.2 X d 8.5 cm.
