Black lacquered wooden coffee table with a figurative decoration inspired by Chinese art, in the style of the so-called "Coromandel" lacquers, highly appreciated in Europe since the 18th century and widely reinterpreted in the 20th century. The tabletop features a lively scene composed of characters in traditional attire, set against a structured landscape (architecture, bridges, stylised mountains, vegetation). The decoration is treated in polychromy (yellow, red, green, blue, etc.), with fine work of chiselling and filling. The apron is adorned with stylised floral motifs and decorative friezes, while the curved, slightly arched legs evoke a Westernised adaptation of Asian forms, typical of export or reinterpretation furniture. In good used condition. There are some marks, scratches, and losses on the tabletop and edges, consistent with use. The lacquer retains a beautiful shine and good legibility of the decoration. Furthermore, a restorer can easily fill in the existing losses. A characterful piece, typical of the enthusiasm for Far Eastern arts in Europe. Ideal as a coffee table, end table, or central element in an eclectic, maximalist, or vintage-inspired interior.
