Venetian-style mirror, made around 1940-50, continuing the Italian productions inspired by models from the 18th and 19th centuries. Entirely made of glass, it consists of a central mirror surrounded by engraved mouldings, assembled without an apparent heavy frame. The whole rests on a black-painted wooden base, designed to remain discreet from the front while offering a neat finish from the side. The cutouts and overlapping mirrors create an elegant play of light. The central mirror is distinguished by a wide, particularly refined bevel, relatively rare in this type of production, which enhances the depth and brightness of the mirror. The mouldings are adorned with acid-etched floral motifs on the back of the glass, leaving the surface perfectly smooth to the touch. Wheat ears and stylised foliage echo the decorative vocabulary of ancient Venetian mirrors in a more streamlined interpretation. The scalloped edges also contribute to this decorative aesthetic. The fixing screws are concealed under moulded glass rosettes shaped like flowers, providing a particularly neat finish. The mirror retains its original silvering, showing a beautiful patina of time: a light speckling and orange oxidation hues that attest to its authenticity without altering its charm or the quality of its reflection. The back is protected by its original cardboard paper and still has its robust hanging system made of twisted wire. Dimensions: W.56 X H.66.5 cm. Will be carefully packaged.
