IKEA Smed coat rack Rutger Andersson 1980s

The silhouette immediately reveals what this design is all about. A simple construction of black lacquered metal is transformed by a few well-chosen bends into a coat rack with a strong individual shape. The Smed coat rack was designed in the 1980s by Rutger Andersson for IKEA. Around the central stand, the metal hooks are distributed at different heights. This not only creates a lively interplay of lines, but also space for coats, bags, scarves, and smaller accessories. Because the hooks are placed all around, the coat rack can be used from all sides. The compact footprint makes the design suitable for a hallway, bedroom, or office. Even without coats, the Smed stands as a graphic object, right at the intersection of daily use and postmodern design. We have carefully cleaned the coat rack and treated the metal with a protective metal wax. It is in neat vintage condition and can be used immediately. Height 172.5 cm Diameter 61 cm.
