Antique commode with cross supports in solid walnut dating from the 1810s/1830s. Solid walnut on all visible faces, legs and cross supports also in walnut. Top made of 2 planks, sanded on the surface, stained and finished with bistro varnish. 4 drawers including one in the apron above the cross supports. Handles in gilded brass, lock entries in bronze. Wide, straight and imposing legs topped with cross supports. Simple sides, panelled. Lovely commode from a master house in a village in northern Aveyron, southern France. Beautiful quality of materials, traditional craftsmanship, assembled with wooden dowels. Very good overall condition, front and sides in excellent condition, top restored. At the back of the piece, wood-boring insects have marked the wood without affecting the structure or the legs; the commode is stable and solid. Comprehensive curative treatment of the piece. The top has been sanded, stained and protected with bistro varnish. The openings and closures of the 4 drawers are smooth and easy. Internal measurements of the drawers; the top drawer: w85/h8/d50, the 3 large drawers: w85/h16/d42.0410002me.
