With its characteristic Domus armrests and a seat and backrest made from a single plywood element, the Domus Lounge Chair is extremely comfortable. In 1946, designer Ilmari Tapiovaara and his wife Annikki won the contract to design the interior of the Domus Academica student housing complex in Helsinki. Believing that functionalism would promote social equality, Tapiovaara created the Domus Lounge Chair as part of a series of furniture for students. Over time, the popularity of the Domus Lounge Chair spread far beyond the venue for which it was originally designed. Frame version: Solid oak Seat shell core: Molded birch veneer Seat shell surface version: Fabric cover and PU foam padding.
