He was the son of merchant robert ekdahl and maria sandberg, married to hildur johnsson from 1937. Ekdahl studied at the skåne school of painting in malmö in 1931-1932 and in copenhagen in 1933, as well as on study trips to italy, france, belgium and spain. He exhibited separately several times in various places in skåne, and from 1939 he participated in skånes konstförening exhibitions. His art consists of still lifes, figures and landscapes in oil, watercolor, pastels and gouache.
