This 19th century oval earthenware dish was produced for export to Macau, China, and features a "Sino-Portuguese" style. Its decoration is of a muscular dynamism with a remarkable mastery of composition. It emanates a tonic freshness from the enamel. The ceramic is a white earth decorated with an intense cobalt blue enamel. It represents a Chinese district with its pagoda. This style will then become a traditional model of Portuguese ceramics. There are numerous defects: losses on the border below and inside, as well as several jumps to the enamel in the dish on the edge. See photos for more details. This dish has never been restored.
