French Dagobert or Curule armchair dating from the late 19th century in hand carved hardwood. This Dagobert armchair is decorated with demon/chimera head motifs on the top of each arm and on the front where the legs join the seat. The back bar is decorated with scroll and leaf details. The legs are curved and there is a reinforcing bar between the two legs. This is a wonderful example of the Dagobert armchair which is a characteristic seat inspired by the bronze throne of King Dagobert of France in the 630s AD. Approximate measurements.
