Antique turned lacquered wooden candlestand

This lovely, colourful, antique piece would have originally been used to support the knees of roadside bidi sellers, as they hand rolled their wares. Artisans have since added an iron spike, to convert this into a very attractive candlestand. Generally kneerests tend to be quite rustic, this however, is a much finer example, both unusual and attractive, with exquisite, handpainted details. With characterful wear, and chips to the paint, consistant with age and use. A rare find for a piece of this quality.
