Alvino Bagni roll vase for Raymor – Italian glazed ceramic - MCM

Rolled vase in glazed ceramic attributed to Alvino Bagni, made in Italy for Raymor, circa the 1960s. With a tall cylindrical shape, the vase features an abstract geometric decoration composed of a black network structuring glazed reserves in a typically Mid-Century palette: bright ochre yellow, olive green, beige, and brown. The overall effect evokes a modernist composition reminiscent of stained glass or mosaic, particularly graphic in nature. The interior is fully glazed in an intense ochre yellow, contrasting with the exterior decoration. The base bears a handwritten inscription "R. 1757/C – Raymor – Italy, " corresponding to the American distribution of the piece by Raymor. Alvino Bagni (1919–2009) is one of the prominent figures in Italian ceramics of the post-war period. Based in Tuscany, he developed a production from the 1950s characterised by sculptural forms, experimental decorations, and particularly expressive glazes. A significant portion of his creations was exported to the United States by Raymor, a New York-based company specialising in the distribution of modern European design.
