Pair of 1990s IKEA Frosta stools in birch plywood, inspired by Alvar Aalto’s iconic Model 60. The stools feature the simple round seat and four-leg construction characteristic of the Frosta design. The stools have been upcycled and hand-finished with commercial gold leaf (not pure gold), applied directly to the original plywood surface. The hand-applied finish naturally presents variations, small marks, and imperfections, giving the surface the character of a handmade process. Produced by IKEA in the 1990s, the Frosta reflects the Scandinavian Modern tradition of bent-plywood furniture and its influence on accessible contemporary design. The original functional form works particularly well with the more decorative gold-leaf finish. They can be used as stools, occasional tables, or side tables and work well in Mid-Century Modern, Scandinavian modern, and contemporary interiors. Great vintage condition, with wear consistent with age and with the hand-applied gold-leaf finish. Please refer to the photographs for details. Dimensions: Height: 45 cm / 17.72 in. Width: 40 cm / 15.75 in. Seat diameter: 32 cm / 12.60 in. Sold as a pair.
