Antique Alpine peasant chair, Stabelle type, made of solid wood – 19th century.

Authentic peasant chair of Alpine tradition, known as Stabelle, probably made in the 19th century. This piece is distinguished by its entirely handcrafted construction in solid wood. Its structure is assembled using traditional woodworking techniques, with mortise and tenon joints, wooden dowels, and wooden wedges, without any nails or visible metal fastenings. The backrest and legs pass through the thick seat and are secured by interlocking and mechanical tightening. Its high monoxyle backrest features an elegant cut in two lobes as well as a small openwork floral motif. The thick seat, formed of two parts with rounded ends, rests on four slightly inclined legs, giving the whole a simple yet particularly sculptural silhouette. Beautiful old patina with traces, irregularities, and signs of use consistent with its age. These elements testify to its handcrafted nature and contribute fully to its authenticity. This type of rural seat, found in Alpine regions and Central Europe, is sometimes referred to as a "monastery chair, " although no specific religious provenance can be formally established. An antique piece of character, ideal for a rustic, brutalist, wabi-sabi interior or in a collection of folk furniture.
