A modernist cast aluminium candle holder designed by matthew hilton and made by essex replica castings for sheridan coakley productions (scp). England 1987. Candle holder signed to the underside (see photos). Dimensions: height 28.5cm • length 11.5cm • width 5.5cm. In good vintage condition (see photos). Matthew hilton is one of the leading designers of the 20th century, best known for his avant-garde furniture. He did not believe in design movements or the concept of design as fashion. Instead, he believed that the design process was part of the evolution of an object. Established in 1985, scp was the first manufacturer to produce hilton's work and is now firmly established as an innovative and internationally respected british manufacturer, retailer and supplier of contemporary design. Now regarded as one of britain's most renowned industrial designers, matthew hilton's furniture and decorative objects are in the permanent collections of the victoria and albert museum.
