Elegant pair of decorative vases in neoclassical style, made of patinated spelter resembling excavated bronze, resting on square bases of yellow Siena marble from the 19th century. Inspired by ancient Greek amphorae, the two vases feature an ovoid body with a black patina, topped with a flared neck and flanked by two large side handles with swan necks, adorned with scrolls and stylised floral motifs. The bodies are decorated with relief figurative scenes depicting characters dressed in ancient attire, whose light silhouettes stand out against the dark surface of the metal. These compositions are accompanied by palmettes, scrolls, and geometric friezes that extend across the various faces of the vases. The necks are highlighted with fine ornamental borders and small medallions with classical profiles. The circular moulded feet rest on square bases of yellow Siena marble, which are themselves supported by four small moulded metal feet. With their rich ornamentation and contrast of materials, these vases embody the neoclassical taste of the 19th century and the tradition of decorative objects inspired by antiquity. In antique condition, showing signs of use and age, including marks, wear to the patina, and surface irregularities. One of the marble bases has a crack and chips. See detail photographs.
