The frame, with its generous curves and decorations of scrolls, shells, and foliage, testifies to the skill of Second Empire artisans, passionate about 18th-century styles. Its original gilding has a warm patina where the red bole is visible in places, a sign of traditional gold leaf work. A rare feature: on the back, a workshop mark “DC” stamped within a small shield decorated with stylized ermines, suggesting a Breton or western French origin. A letter “V” is also inscribed on the wood, likely a workshop assembly mark. The back made of antique planks and the slightly pitted glass enhance the piece's authenticity.
