Antique print of Butterflies - Lithograph from 1887 - Galatha

Very old and magnificent color lithograph of butterflies. Illustration of rhopalocera (rhopalocera in Latin), including the galatha. This plate is an original from 1887. It is not a copy but an engraving more than 130 years old! Size: 28 X 21 cm. A detailed and realistic work from a specialized book; with about twenty different species illustrated. The condition of the engraving is good: slightly worn edges, small fold bottom left, slight soiling bottom right. Once framed, this will no longer be visible and will give a beautiful vintage effect. Often colored manually, the colors are bright, sharp and well contrasted: a remarkable work. Note, the spine is without text or image. The author of the work is Dr. E. Hofmann, famous entomologist (1837 - 1892) specialized in insects, especially Lepidoptera. His entomology collections, butterfly are preserved at the Natural History Museum in London and by the National Museum of Natural History in Washington.
