Hand-Forged Wrought Iron Brutalist Candelabra, Scandinavia — circa 1960s/1970s

This is a substantial and deeply characterful piece of ironwork. The three-arm candelabra is hand-forged in blackened wrought iron, with a tightly twisted central stem rising from a tripod base of three twisted, curling legs. The arms sweep outward in thick twisted ropes of iron, each ending in a simple conical candle holder. At the centre, a hammered iron crosspiece — raw-edged and organic in form — carries two pairs of hanging leaf ornaments, each individually forged and etched with a delicate vein pattern. The leaves move gently, giving the piece an unexpected lightness.The quality of the ironwork points strongly to a skilled blacksmith working in the Scandinavian craft tradition — possibly from the Skåne region of Sweden, where wrought iron work of this kind has a long history. The style sits at the intersection of traditional folk craft and the Brutalist aesthetic that gained momentum in mid-20th century Scandinavian applied arts.
