Created in the late 1950s, the Oyster model is now considered one of the most iconic achievements of the French designer. Inspired by the organic shape of an open oyster, this armchair perfectly illustrates Pierre Paulin's work around comfort, sculptural lines, and the fluidity of forms. The set presented here stands out due to a particularly rare element: the presence of its original wool upholstery, preserved in remarkable condition. The vast majority of examples currently on the market have been completely reupholstered over the decades. Complete sets that have retained their original fabric are now difficult to find. The fabric features a superb brown flecked hue typical of Artifort productions from that era. The wool is sound, taut, and uniform, with no tears or restorations. The matching ottoman, model P157, perfectly complements the armchair and offers exceptional comfort. The metal structure is also in very good overall condition. Only a few signs of use and a slight patina on some legs are to be noted, consistent with the age of this piece and attesting to its authenticity. An iconic set of 20th-century design, as elegant as it is comfortable, suitable for both a contemporary interior and a design furniture collection.
