Ancient painting by Leonardo Roda, winter landscape, 19th century.

Oil on canvas. Signed at the bottom right. Leonardo Roda, a landscape painter from Turin, was known as "the painter of the Matterhorn" for his numerous views of the alpine peak, painted in all seasons and at all times of the day. Here is presented a view of the Conca del Breuil, a large alpine basin at the foot of the Matterhorn, completely covered in snow: the roofs of several houses with a bell tower emerge from the snow, while in the foreground a peasant passes by with a sled pulled by two horses. Guilloché frame from the early 20th century.
