This mid century sideboard as produced in the 1960’s in former czechoslovakia as a model u-369. It was designed by jitona furniture company, one of the leading czech manufacturers. Their furniture was the best quality at the time and most of their production was made for export outside czechoslovakia (as well as making pieces directly for ikea). They were also ahead of time compared to other czech producers with their support of the student design competitions, as well as their collaboration with the national institution for art and crafts. This piece was designed by architect bohumil landsman under the supervision of the jitona’s head designer hubert nepozitek. The sideboard was a part of company’s most popular and commercially successful interior range ever, the u - 300 series. The sideboard is made of beech wood and the charm of this piece lies in the elegant proportions, subtle detailing and gently round corners with a thin steel bar running along it’s edge. The rich texture of beech wood contrasts well with the minimalistic look of the black opaxite glass. This sideboard is in great original condition. It is showing only minimal natural wear and tear on the wooden parts inside and on the outside, and also slight wear on the opaxite glass. There is a small part on the bottom corner of the left side of the cabinet which has got a wooden filler in a slightly darker colour than the beech wood.
