Dubois louis (1830-1880) Oil on canvas. Dimensions of the work; 40 X 60 cm. Dimensions with frame: 60 X 80 cm. Dubois, louis. Brussels, 1830 - schaerbeek (brussels), 1880. Painter of landscapes, allegories, figures, still lifes. Attends the atelier libre saint-luc. From 1848 to 1851, he studied at the academy of fine arts in brussels (navez's studio). Frequents the studio of t. Couture, in paris. From 1868, he founded and animated in brussels, the free society of fine arts, in reaction against official painting. Spokesman for realism in belgium; under the pseudonym "hout", he became the defender of courbet in the "art libre". Colorist of temperament, his attachment to the quality of the profession is illustrated in a pictorial work of great diversity bringing together landscapes, still lifes, portraits and genre scenes. Sometimes the transposition of a climate of mystery announces a form of symbolism ("les cigognes", 1858, brussels, m.r.b.a.b.) (dictionary of belgian painters) Collections.
