Few lamps capture the optimism of the early 1970s quite as vividly as this striking yellow pendant. Bold in color, graphic in form, and deeply rooted in the Pop Art sensibility that swept through Scandinavian design in the late 1960s, this is a piece that commands attention the moment it is switched on — and holds it just as effectively when it is not.The shade is constructed from a series of horizontal rings or louvers stacked to form a cylinder, lacquered in a vibrant cadmium yellow. The rings are angled slightly inward, directing light through the gaps between them in a series of warm, glowing horizontal bands. The effect when illuminated is dramatic and theatrical — bands of intense amber-yellow light radiate outward from between each ring, transforming the lamp into something closer to a light sculpture than a conventional pendant. Off, it reads as a clean, almost industrial object with a strong Pop Art graphic quality. The construction is of high-quality plastic, consistent with Scandinavian production of the period — lightweight, precision-made, and finished to a high standard. The color has retained its intensity well, with no fading or significant wear. The white cord is present and the lamp is in working order. The louvered or slatted pendant form was enormously popular among Scandinavian lighting designers in this era, most famously explored by Jo Hammerborg for Fog & Mørup and by designers working in the orbit of Hans-Agne Jakobsson’s Markaryd studio. The bold use of solid color reflects the influence of Verner Panton and the broader Pop Art movement, which made significant inroads into Swedish and Danish lighting design around 1968–1975.A highly decorative and versatile piece — equally at home over a dining table, in a kitchen, or as a statement in an entrance hall.
