Brutalist sculptural candlestick attributed to Elisabeth Vandeweghe - 70s

Sculptural ceramic candlestick, attributed to the Belgian ceramist Elisabeth Vandeweghe (Perignem workshops), from around the 1960s-1970s. The piece develops an almost totemic architectural silhouette. The terracotta is worked in reliefs and animated by a palette blending black, copper brown, and punctuations of red glaze. The composition plays on the fullness and emptiness: a large central opening, sculpted curves, and a flared upper part. The numerous surface irregularities and traces of modelling give the whole a particularly artisanal and graphic presence. Very good overall vintage condition, with irregularities and marks inherent to the artisanal work of ceramics. See photographs for details of the condition.
