Old cobalt blue rooster jug

Ancient zoomorphic jug in cobalt blue glazed ceramic, depicting a rooster with particularly decorative modelling. The piece stands out for its meticulous craftsmanship: a generously sculpted body, relief-moulded plumage, a prominent radiating comb, a large handle integrated at the back, and a small original lid. It rests on a remarkable flared foot with fluting, treated like a pleated skirt, which gives it a particularly elegant and unusual silhouette. The whole is covered in a beautiful deep and shiny cobalt blue glaze, revealing the slight irregularities characteristic of ancient moulded ceramics. By its decorative vocabulary, modelling, and finishes, this jug can be cautiously dated to between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. As there is no manufacturer's mark present, its exact origin remains to be determined. The model is atypical and uncommon. Note: The beak was previously broken and reattached, as visible in the photographs.
