Beautiful and unique enameled ceramic salt shaker handmade in the shape of a cabbage leaf from bordallo pinheiro. The salt shaker is missing enamel on the lid, otherwise it is in excellent condition. These pieces, famous from the high society of the 60s, become unique thanks to the fact that none of them are the same as the other because they are handcrafted. In the 1960s, a full set of cabbage dishes was characteristic of a high society home. Many pieces were highly collectible, including bordallo pinheiro's iconic range of cabbages. The portuguese ceramic studio, bordallo pinheiro, was established in 1884. Brothers raphael and feliciano bordallo pinheiro started the company, and many of the current pieces are still made to raphael's designs. In just twenty-one years, bordallo pinheiro's bold and artistic ceramics gained international recognition. Rafael was inspired by the flora and fauna of his hometown, caldas, as well as drawing inspiration from ideas from the renaissance and the art nouveau and naturalism movements. We also have the matching tureen sold separately (see last two images). Measurements: height 11 cm. Diameter 10 cm.
