Sgarsul (neapolitan dialect and means “scugnizzo” or street urchin) rocking chair designed by the renowned architect and designer gae aulenti in 1962 for poltronova italy. She amde het debut as a designer with this remarkable piece of furniture, when she was just in het thirties. The chair is a modern reinterpretation of thonet's famous rocking chair no1 from 1862. It shows how aulenti saw innovation, not as a complete departure from the past, but as a creative and inventive dialogue with it. The chair has black lacquered bent beech plywood stucture with a sleek black gloss finish, that gives it a modern and elegant appearance. The cognac/brick red leather seating is still original and in very good condition. Also the wooden frame is excellent. Only little traces of wear.
