Ger LATASTER (1920-2012), Abstract composition dating from 1956. Lithographed on vellum paper. Limited edition of 20 copies, numbered "19" in the bottom left. The work is signed in pencil in the bottom right. Dimensions: 33 X 45cm. The lithograph is in very good overall condition. It is unframed and will be sent in a very sturdy flat box (to avoid rolling it). Ger Lataster is a Dutch painter born in 1920 in Schaesberg and died in Amsterdam in 2012. Trained in Maastricht and then at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam, he established himself after the war as a major artist of Dutch abstraction. His work is marked by abstract expressionism, lyrical abstraction, and the influence of the CoBrA movement. His painting is characterised by bright colours, generous texture, and a very free gesture. He notably uses impasto, drips, and projections to create dynamic compositions. Throughout his career, Lataster experimented with different techniques and maintained a great artistic independence. He is still considered an important figure in post-war Dutch art, recognised for his pictorial energy and taste for experimentation. His works are exhibited in about fifteen international museums, such as the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
